With the successful completion of Hong Kong Multi-ethnic Student Exchange Program- "My Chinese Heart" in Shenzhen, Principal Lai Pui Yin of Bethel High School and a group of students were interviewed by China Central Television (CCTV). They discussed the significance and the profound impact of this event on both youngsters between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
On September 14, 2024, the exchange program was co-organized by the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (LOCPG), the New Territories Association of Societies (NTAS), and the Luohu District Federation of Literary and Art Circles in Shenzhen (FLACSF). The students experienced the patriotic education and various precious cultural exchange events in Shenzhen. They got a chance to visit some iconic sites in Luohu, such as Meridian View Center which locates on the top floor of 384-meter Diwang Building and the Luohu District Shenzhen-Hong Kong Integrated Development and Exchange Center. They also visited the Guangdong Water Supplies Exhibition Hall (粵海水務展覽館) and gained an in-depth insight about the history and the development of Eastern Shenzhen Water Supplies Project for Hong Kong (東深供水工程). Knowing this project, the students sense the deep connection and the friendship with Mainland China by sharing the same water source.
During the CCTV interview, Principal Lai stated, "This event does not only allow Hong Kong students to witness the Mainland's prosperity but most importantly has reinforced their national identities and has also deepened their understanding about our country’s history and culture. Through this program, they have formed a strong tie with our mother country. We hope such event will further ignite patriotism among Hong Kong youth and foster friendship and cooperation between the youngsters of both regions."
Students shared their thoughts about this program afterwards. One of students expressed, "This is my first visit to Luohu, Shenzhen and the Guangdong Water Supplies Exhibition Hall (粵海水務展覽館). Everything here is splendid, and I deeply feel the support and the care from our motherland. I will share this amazing experience with my family and friends."
This exchange and the CCTV interview have enhanced the understanding about our nation, build up friendship among the youth of both regions and have planted a seed of patriotism in the hearts of Hong Kong teens. It is believed that the teenagers in Shenzhen and Hong Kong will continue to collaborate and write more new chapters in cross-regional exchanges and cooperation in the near future.
