Learning English through "Space" Exploration at Ho Tak Sum Primary School
Yesterday, our school's English Department and Promotion Team sent 27 senior secondary students to Lions Clubs International Ho Tak Sum Primary School to assist in organizing a space-themed English Day. They were in charge of two interactive booths: "Space Rocket Blast-Off!" and "Space Photo Studio." Combining English learning, interactive games, and self-directed learning, this event allowed our senior students to step outside the classroom and serve as student ambassadors, guiding primary students to use English in a relaxing atmosphere.
The booth designs echoed the space theme and featured rich content. The "Space Rocket Blast-Off!" booth offered different tasks tailored to various grade levels, covering basic phonics, color and number vocabulary, sentence construction, general astronomy knowledge, and impromptu Q&A. This allowed the primary students to practice their English listening and speaking skills through gameplay. At the "Space Photo Studio" booth, primary students selected their favorite space-themed prop cards, read the English sentences on them aloud, and posed for pictures in front of a backdrop. Junior students repeated the sentences after the ambassadors, while senior students read them independently and answered follow-up questions. After the photoshoot, the ambassadors helped print the photos on the spot.
During the event, the student ambassadors worked closely together, sharing responsibilities that included booth design, guiding, demonstrating, scoring, photography, and stamping. They interacted with the primary students in English, enlivened the atmosphere, and showcased both confidence and a strong sense of responsibility. This activity not only helped them develop event organization and communication skills but also allowed them to put the concept of "learning through play" into practice within a joyful, space-themed environment.
